One of my favorite things about EPCOT Center was that you could be just casually walking around, heading toward Horizons or Spaceship Earth or the World of Motion, passing through CommuniCore, and then you'd suddenly hear a band coming marching toward you and, bam, suddenly you were the audience for the Future World Brass. Some would just walk by. I've never understood why. I've got some great video of them somewhere.
The Future World Brass has not graced EPCOT since 1992, but I just discovered that they've made it to YouTube. This is from their last day.
Awesome.
And here's the other EPCOT brass band, the Future Corps. Alas, they've been gone since 2000.

It is truly unfortunate that "cost-cutting" measures so often end up actually cutting revenue, as I'm sure did the decision by WDW to remove these bands from the payroll. Many guests surely miss nuances like these, and may be less likely to return as often if these type of decisions become the norm. For example, I recently discovered that as a new way to save money during this current downturn, WDW parks in FL will discontinue the talking trash cans and recycling bins and palm trees etc. While this could save a few bucks in the short run, this type of short sighted policy will eventually cost more than it saves with less bodies turning the turnstiles. Also the added cost of restarting these attractions will defray from the alleged savings as well. I believe the current budget arguments about high speed rail et al, mirror this same discussion. If you can't invest money in something no one will benefit from new jobs.
